I can't do this book or its author justice with this review. It is a genuinely enjoyable must-read.
Dr. Shewmaker conveys a strong sense of sense of ethics and professionalism, a zero-tolerance policy for nonsense, rule-bending, and self-deception, a commitment to public safety and awareness... and manages to almost effortlessly, and even simultaneously, inform and entertain -- this is no small feat, particularly with the subject at hand.
I suspect this volume would be a worthwhile read for anyone with even the most remote interest in anything or anyone with a connection to aviation.
I'll be eagerly awaiting his subsequent works.

Having been through countless FAA physicals I found this book amazing and very funny at times as well. It gives an insight into the world of an Aviation Medical Examiner that most pilots never see. The author has a lot of experience and a lot of unbelievable stories to tell. Highly recommended!

Excellent book about an AME and his experiences. A funny and insightful look into aviation medicals. Well worth the read! Now on to what promises to be an excellent second book, "Murder in a 172"
