This was a good book that went into lots of detail. I always appreciate anyone who suggests treating my dog naturally rather than medically. My dog has suffered outdoor and environmental allergies for several years, as well as frequent yeast infections. This book went into both in detail, as well as natural flea and tick treatment and herbal supplements for his skin issues and also for mood issues that result. Many of the ideas I was already trying, but it is always nice to have it confirmed that I am on the right track. The only small complaint I have is that the author's solution for everything was to feed raw as the answer to everything. Obviously, I would love to feed raw if time, energy and funds allowed for it. However, if I were to feed raw, that would mean that I might not be able to afford supplements, agility trials and training and other classes. I find these mental games to be as important for his well-being as anything else.
However, adding in a few suggestions from this book, I feel that I have my dog's skin issues mostly under control. He smells better than before, his skin is much less dry and less dandruff. He also seems to smell much less yeasty. This is a work in progress but we are going in the right direction.

Itchy Dogs A Natural Health Guide for Dogs with Skin Problems edition by Julie Massoni Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews
Some great tips and great advice, not just for itchy dogs but smelly ones too!! We'll done and thank you
This book was helpful to my understanding of my dog's issues. She had a major yeast infection secondary to year round allergies. She is a German shepherd, and she was diagnosed with allergies at one year of age. Her skin condition was worsening over the winter, when I got this book. I never found a holistic treatment that worked. Nor a medicated shampoo that worked. Starting her on a raw diet did not work. Her hair was falling out, and my vet put her on Apoquel. That worked, and she is getting back her puppy exuberance, and slowly her skin is clearing and we hope her coat will grow back. She continues on the raw diet. So this book was very helpful in defining the problem, but not on overcoming the problem.
Good book
Some useful tips.
I love learning about pet care and this book taught me a couple valuable lessons !!
Itchy Dogs book is a very comprehensive quick to read guide.
It includes many photos of conditions on a dogs skin to aid you in your search for the cause of the itchiness.
It explains that an itchy dog is a common thing.
The guide includes all causes of itchiness including itches caused by fleas and also mange.
The treatments included are detailed and are many.
There is a chapter on diet, a chapter on elimination diet, fasting is also covered.
A chapter on natural flea control.
There is a detailed section on natural bath washes and rinses. Even one using lemon skins to make a wash to repel fleas. Apparently fleas hate lemons, this I did not know.
Finally chapters on herbal remedies, homeopathic solutions and flower essences for emotional health.
This book is full of really great advice and contains all the information I've been looking for!
In the past I have spent a fortune on vet treatments that have had no effect whatsoever and it has been awful to watch my dog suffer. Finally, I now have answers that explain the itchy dog syndrome so clearly and make absolute sense. I am so glad to at last find a way to help my dog and the best part is that the treatments are completely natural. This means I no longer have to fill my puppy with chemicals that don't work.
The author is an animal naturopath who obviously knows what she's talking about. I can thoroughly recommend this book to anyone whose dog is suffering. It is a must read!!!
